Music has different meaning to different people. To me, it means divinity or path to reach divinity. While singing, I find myself getting close to God. I have realized this only recently. I was not singing very often. However, I am being trained in Carnatic music for an year or so. This is when I found my true spiritual love with music.
There are various types of music practiced and heard around the world. Basic for any music includes bhava, raga and talam. We also call India ‘Bharata’ which stands for the above three elements. Among the Indian classical music styles, we have Hindustani and Carnatic styles that are mostly followed. I am a Carnatic music style follower. I find the sangathis, alapana and swarakalpana manodharma in Carnatic music more appealing.
Shruti or pitch is the basis of any music. One can get electronic shruti box which provides a drone while performing Indian classical music.
Carnatic music lovers used to refer to karnatic.com site to listen to the shruti. http://www.karnatik.com/shrutibox.shtml. However, the links for the shruti scales listed in the page does not give any further page.
An alternative is to fetch shruthi for Carnatic music using the following links -

There are YouTube files with shruti scales B to A and in other words, from 0.75 kattai to 6 kattai. One can download them to computer. You can play them when and wherever, provided you have a computer with you!
When feeling low, we can simply play any of the shrutis and keep listening to it. This is a simple way to create divine atmosphere for any religious programs!. To me, listening to shruti feels as if I am listening to omkar. I suggest all to experience it and do let me know!
Happy listening!
