Carnatic Keerthana – Varalakshmi Namostute in GowriManohari raga

This keerthana in Gowri Manohari raga is by Shri Mysore Vasudev Acharya.

Lyrics of this Keerthana is given below. Please note that there are swarams that need to be sung in second speed(dvitiya kala).  For example, in the pallavi of this keerthana ’P P | PMGR  S , || ‘ P P are in first speed and PMGR is sung in second speed. Basically, I have represented the first speed swarams with a space(as in P P ) and second swarams without spaces (as in PMGR or NRS,).Hope this will help to understand the notations better.

Carnatic Keerthana: Vandeni shamaham/Vande anisham

I got introduced to Carnatic music at the age of 12. Unfortunately, carnatic learning stayed only for few months. My first teacher had taught me few keerthanas and varnams(the basic ones). I did not continue to practice them so gradually lost touch of all of them . I get nostalgic when I find them in my old music book.

Yesterday, I was going through my old carnatic music book and I found the Keerthana,’Vandeni shamahan’ in Hamsadhwani raagam.

I tried to recollect this keerthana but all my efforts went in vain. Then, I searched for the notations on the internet to check if there are any differences/changes/improved versions available.

Upon finding that there are no notations I could reach to, I decided to share notations from my book. Hopefully, it will help someone out there who is searching for the notations!

‘Mareya Beda Manave’ by Purandaradasa

Mareya Beda manave Neenu…This song is one of my favorites that my mother used to sing to me as lullaby. I still remember the sweetness that this song used to fill in the atmosphere. I tried my best to sing the way my mother used to. Here is the song.

Swarajathi in Janjuti raagam and geetham in Begade raagam

Hello All,

All these years, I had been desperately searching for swarajathi in Janjuti raagam which my veena teacher had taught me and  unfortunately, I forgot the same :(. But thanks to Ms.Vasundhara Iyengar’s website,I found the notations and reference swarajathi to learn. Thanks a ton to this website!!

Painting – Roses

Hello All,

Here is a painting done on canvas using acrylic colours. Tutorial of the painting was found in Picaso website. I tried to replicate the same here.

Painting – Saree

I bought a plain green saree from Hyderabad. I painted it with acrylic colours and here is the border of the saree along with peacock design on the pallu.

 

I had to apply 2 layers of colours for the design and as a result, the pallu has become little stiff. I will have to check if ironing the saree resolves this stiffness!.

My version of Kusidda Manege song

I did not find any audio of the Kannada song ‘Kusidda manege’. Hence, thought of sharing my version of this song.

Need to practice a lot but for now, here is my rendition
