Mareya Beda manave Neenu…This song is one of my favorites that my mother used to sing to me as lullaby. I still remember the sweetness that this song used to fill in the atmosphere. I tried my best to sing the way my mother used to. Here is the song.

Here is the lyrics that I follow:

Mareya beda manave neenu hariya smaraneya

Yaaga yajna madaleke, yogi yathiyu agaleke,

Naaga shayana naarada vandyana kudi bhajane mado..

Hello All,

All these years, I had been desperately searching for swarajathi in Janjuti raagam which my veena teacher had taught me and unfortunately, I forgot the same :(. But thanks to Ms.Vasundhara Iyengar’s website,I found the notations and reference swarajathi to learn. Thanks a ton to this website!!

Painting – Saree

I bought a plain green saree from Hyderabad. I painted it with acrylic colours and here is the border of the saree along with peacock design on the pallu.

I had to apply 2 layers of colours for the design and as a result, the pallu has become little stiff. I will have to check if ironing the saree resolves this stiffness!.

Kannada Jaanapada(folk song) song – Kusidda manege

Namaskara!

When I was a small kid, my mother used to sing lot of lullabies in her sweet and soft voice which would immediately put me to sleep. She has used these songs to other kids in my family- my bother,cousins and many more..

One of them was this jaanapada geethe – ‘Kusidda manege beesanige yake’. Even today, I can feel the same comfort and happiness while singing this song. I simply adore this one as it has a melody and love filled in each of its sentence.

After many years, I had lost the lyrics of this song and yesterday I phoned my mother who stays in Bangalore to recollect same. Here is the lyrics of it and I will soon upload the song too!

Kusidda manege beesanige yake,

Kusu kandamma ola horage.

Kusu kandamma ola horage sulidare,

Beesanige gali sulidhange.

Maavina midi chanda,

Haavina hede chanda,

Haraadi baruvo gili chanda

Haraadi baruvo gili chanda, nee chanda, kandayya chanda namagella.

Hakkige gudase, makkalige thayase,

bithida belege, maleyase,

Pundaradasa and Tyagaraja Aradhana 2012 at RastaPeth, Pune

Tyagaraj swamy and Pundaradasa are two among the most well known contributors to Carnatic music. We can say that the carnatic music became famous because of such saint musicians. Purandaradasa(1494-1564) is considered the pitamaha of carnatic music who actually initiated a formal way of learning carnatic music. Tyagaraja swamy(1767-1847)who lived almost three centuries away from Purandaradasa era, was influenced by music of Pundaradasa and other great stalwarts. His works enthralls both the learned and layman equally.

While Pundaradasa dedicated his works to Lord Shri Krishna, Tyagaraja swamy prayed to Lord Shri Rama through his creations.

Every year, Shree Hari Hara Bhajana Samajam at Rastapet,Pune organises Tyagaraja swamy Aradhana at the Madrasi Ganapati Temple at Rastapet,Pune. This year, it was my fortune to get a chance to participate in the same. After a lot of research, we zeroed on the famous kriti of Tyagarajaswamy – Seethapate na manasuna. This kriti is in Khamas raagam. Through this kriti, the renowned musician prays to Lord Rama along with his consort Seeta to reveal Himself and cast upon him a benevolent look and assure him that he has nothing to fear in this world.

There were many students from various carnatic teachers in Pune who participated in this aradhana programme. Participants ranged from small kids to music teachers themselves. The evening was most memorable and we got to hear kritis by both the musicians and to name few of the songs – Vadera daivamu, Seethamma mayamma, by Tyagaraja swamy, Hari narayana enu manave, Smariso saravada by Purandaradasa.

Painting on a Greeting Card – Distant house on a river bank

This painting was found on an old greeting card that my uncle had gifted me. I like the calmness of water depicted in the picture. Looking into it, I get a feeling that there was a heavy shower on the previous day and in the morning the sky is clear and vibrant, birds are chirping all around and a man has started his rounds of fishing!

This picture is available for your practice. Do let me know if anyone has tried this out.
